Miss Marisa’s Kindergarten Class

2008-2009

Hello, hola! My name is Miss. Marisa and I teach Kindergarten at Calabasas Elementary School. This is my second year here at Calabasas. After High School, I wanted to be a Physical Therapist so I went to Fresno State and did my undergrad studies in Health Science. I worked meanwhile as a Gymnastics Coach to help me pay for college expenses. After graduating, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to still be a physical Therapist so I got a job at Watsonville Community Hospital as a Radiology assistant. I worked there for a year and although I loved helping people in our community, it was not for me. I remembered how much I loved coaching gymnastics and working with kids. I decided to try teaching. I started with subbing and teaching after school programs and Summer schools. I found out that I loved teaching!!! This was for me. So I set out to get my Masters and credential at UC Santa Cruz. I’ve been a teacher ever since.

This year, I have 20 wonderful kindergarten students. They are all so different and I am enjoying getting to know each one of them.
We just finished studying Sealife and ended the unit with a visit to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We have now moved onto our Transportation unit and students are excited to learn about different types of modes.

Here is our kinder Schedule for our morning class. Slight changes are made depending on special events.
